September 29, 2021 – The 80s classic is getting another game. A Goonies escape room board game is coming in November. What if it were possible to escape your humdrum daily life, after stumbling across a mysterious mission that was perfectly suited for you and your closest friends? The Goonies: Escape with One-Eyed Willy’s Rich Stuff – A Coded Chronicles Game is based on the classic treasure-hunting, adventure comedy film from the 80s, and creates a brand-new way for fans to get in on the unpredictable journey of the brave young explorers coming November 4, 2021, and available for pre-order now for $29.99.
This will be the third game to use publisher The Ops “Coded Chronicles” system. These games are the first at-home escape room-style activity that integrates storylines from iconic franchises into the foundation of a unique code-revealing mechanic, which players use to cooperatively and gradually unlock new parts of the game. It’s the same nail-biting excitement of a real escape room, but without the time limit. It follows titles focused on Scooby-Do and The Shining.
In this third installation, you can play as Mikey, Brand, Mouth, Data, Andy, Stef, Chunk, and Sloth and go on a quest for One-Eyed Willy’s hidden treasure! Each character offers their own special skill as everyone must decode clues and get the answers needed to reach The Inferno. Just keep the dreaded Fratellis away from adding to the obstacles in this challenge that calls for the gang’s collective focus and dedication!

As with the previous releases by designers Jay Cormier and Sen Foong Lim, The Goonies: Escape with One-Eyed Willy’s Rich Stuff incorporates a strong narrative storyline from the iconic franchise as a guide for players to work together and unlock new locations and resources using a code-revealing mechanic. Remember, “Goonies Never Say Die!”

The Goonies was a 1985 family film that hit $61 million at the US box office in its initial run and became a phenomenon that is still beloved today. The film was written by Chris Columbus (Gremlins Franchise, Directed Home Alone, Producer on Harry Potter) and Steven Spielberg (yea, that guy), and directed by Richard Donner (Superman, Lethal Weapon). It made stars out of Josh Brolin (Thanos), Sean Astin (Rudy) and many others.
This announcement comes on the same day that the publisher also announced a new Cuphead dice rolling board game to be released at the same time. The publisher whose origins started in releasing hundreds of different Monopoly games has certainly been branching out quite a bit since then while still staying within their IP licensing roots.
