November 8, 2020 – In an incredibly sad announcement, legendary game show host and person Alex Trebeck has passed away after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He fought long and hard and the public was stunned when he originally revealed his diagnosis to the public on March 6th, 2019. That fight is now unfortunately over as he passes away at the age of 80.

Alex Trebeck was an icon, both for his contribution to hist craft but also for just being a fantastic person. Alex started hosting powerhouse trivia gameshow Jeopardy in 1984 and with only a few absences went all the way through to 2020, everyday handling himself with just as much dignity and class as the day prior. Jeopardy has the best reputation of its kind and that is all because of the great Mr. Trebeck. He hosted a total of 8,200 shows.

Culturally, people would poke fun from time to time, but none left the mark quite like the Will Ferrell celebrity jeopardy impression. It was such a hit that Saturday Night Live did a total of fifteen of these sketches that aired between December 1996 and February 2015. Here is one of the great segments:

For us, we of course are thinking Alex Trebek Board Games. The connection may not seem abundantly clear but in a world where many people do not know what the board game world has to offer, he took a corner of the world and made it more mainstream and accessible to the world. He was a triple threat of likable, classy and sharp. He brought credibility to a trivia show that may have not even come close without him and he did it for over three decades. Trivia and board games are not neccesarily the same thing but they are in the same world and a win is a win. Thank you so much Mr. Trebek for all that you have done, you will be missed.
