December 3, 2021 – Across Europe, something beautiful is popping up, Carcassonne 3rd Edition. Across various online stores, the new version of the classic tile laying game is being displayed as the new edition with completely new artwork. Artwork that looks fantastic.
“Carcassonne V3.0: Now in a new design with clearer rules and even more detailed plates. Both the game principle and all other content remain the same and are still compatible with all versions and expansions.” This is what German store Spielzeugladen Neusser has in their game description.
It appears that this new version will have everything that the 2017 released big box version had but with major art updates (just look at that beautiful box) and some rule clarifications to make things easier, though it is already one of the easiest games to pick up of all time.

Carcassonne originally came out in 2000 and when it did it blew people away, winning the Spiel des Jahres award in 2001 and being one of the most played board games of all time. It is even being honored as one of the 16 games in the inaugural World Series of Board Gaming taking place in Vegas in September 2022. In the 20 years since it has been out, it has had many reprintings and tons of expansions (large and small).
ABOUT CARCASSONNE
Carcassonne has players draw and place a tile with a piece of southern French landscape on it. The tile might feature a city, a road, a cloister, grassland or some combination thereof, and it must be placed adjacent to tiles that have already been played, in such a way that cities are connected to cities, roads to roads, etcetera. Then the player decides if they want to use their limited resources to claim it. For 2 – 5 players, games last about 40 minutes.
