January 4, 2022 – Publisher Pegasus Spiel announced their new prehistoric civilization game Fire and Stone from award winning designer Klaus-Jürgen Wrede. The game is available for presale now at a $39.99 MSRP with an expected release of January 2022.
Board game fans might know the name Klaus-Jürgen Wrede from Carcassonne, the 2001 Game of the Year (Spiel des Jahres 2001). In his new game, Fire & Stone, he invites families to travel to the early stages of humanity.
Two to four players, 10 years and up, lead their tribe of early homo sapiens out of Africa into the world by moving their scouts around the board, exploring new regions and spaces.
Each space is covered by a discovery tile. When a scout is moved onto a space for the first time the discovery tile is turned over and reveals its effect. Vegetables, fruit, mushrooms, and nuts can be found and gathered. A forest can be revealed, allowing players to hunt for animals. Other tiles enable players to build huts or prepare meat over a fire. Each discovery moves the tribe along the path to success.
The person who leads the most successful tribe through the Stone Age by spreading out and developing will win this family game, which was edited by Feuerland Spiele’s editorial team.
At the beginning of the game, each player gets a secret task card, which will help guide strategy and give bonus points at the end of the game. Invention cards help speed up a tribe’s development with new tools and techniques like ship building and clay pots. A mysterious cave appears at a different place each game, bringing a new challenge to conquer.
With 24 different cave cards to choose from and the random setup placement of tiles, each game creates a new board to discover. Fire & Stone offers variability and ever-changing challenges not only to occasional but also to experienced players.
