This is out Dominion review. Dominion is a revolutionary game that brought the deck building genre to life. This is one of the smartest games to ever hit tabletop gaming. Every game starts with a set of victory cards, money cards and ten new action cards. Players start with a small deck with some money they use to buy action cards and bigger money to get to higher victory points. As the game progresses you build up a deck that allows you to get bigger and better things, drawing better cards each and every time. Dominion is incredibly fun and a game you will want to play over and over. This is the Dominion review.

DOMINION REVIEW by BOARD GAME HALV

– CATEGORY BREAKDOWN –

Fun (8 out of 10)

You have so many options and strategies to pursue. And everything is built on your blood, sweat and tears. Every notch you get closer to riches you feel so accomplished. You finally get that great hand that lets you chain combo after combo and everything feels right. There are short, medium and long term strategies going on that you have to think about. For something that seems so simple, there is so much to it.

Replayability (8 out of 10)

Every single time you play this game it is a brand new game, probably more so than any other game. The change in main action cards makes gameplay so dramatically different each time, it is astonishing. You are still trying to get the same victory points fueled by the same money, but what the actions do take completed different paths on how to get you there.

Player Interaction (5 out of 10)

Everyone is worried about their own deck and buying from the same cards, but there are plenty of elements that make the other players the enemy. around 15 – 20% of the action cards do have negative effects on the other players. You also have to fight over stacks of cards. Once something is gone, it is gone forever. The opponents are not your biggest obstacle but they certainly can make you have a bad day.

Quality (9 out of 10)

This game created genius out of nothing. It was the first of its kind and it blew people away. The game is so complex and requires such a delicate ecosystem of so many cards working together, yet it is all done seamlessly. On top of that, the game is about as simple as they come. ABC – Action, Buy, Clean Up – that is a turn. There are hundreds of cards now and they all play their role, that is something special.

Art & Style (7 out of 10)

Ok, the Dominion logo is not my favorite logo of all time, but they make up for that with all great card art. All the action cards fit the medieval theme and help build out the overall Dominion world very consistently. Some of the borders and little things are a bit dated, but this is more than made up for with all they have been able to churn out. Special bonus points go to the community for the amazing Dominion custom game boxes out there.

Dominion Review

When you think deck building you probably think of games like Magic the Gathering but this is not that. This game box has everything you need to play a game. You start with nothing and have to build, that is the magic of the game. The balance is incredible and so smartly put together. This game was a cultural beacon and though there have been many greats to come along in its space, none have matched what it has been able to achieve. If you like this one, a good next game is Clank!. We hope this Dominion review has been helpful.
