June 10, 2021 – In an update from Portal games out of Poland, the highly anticipated Dune House Secrets board game now has art, release date and details now available. Based on what is wildly considered one of the most important sci-fi novels ever, 1965’s Dune, this adds to the list of the many things that have come out of the story. There was a cult classic 1984 film as well as an upcoming one from one of the most important directors working today, Denis Villeneuve. There are also several other board games, most of which are quite good.
This board game adaption of the franchise is different because it puts Portal games trademark immersive strategic adventure spin on it. Adding many new Dune mechanics and features to their award-winning Detective game system, Dune: House Secrets is a cooperative, story-driven adventure game for 1-4 players aged 14+, which delivers a unique, deeply thematic experience that drops you right in the middle of the highest stakes on the harsh desert planet of Arrakis.
There were three key takeaways from today’s announcement:
- Dune House Secrets Board Game will premiere on October 15, 2021, at Essen Spiel, the world’s biggest fair dedicated to board games with over 150,000 visitors each year. The game will hit stores worldwide the following week.
- A brand new website launched today (https://www.dune.portalgames.pl) for the game that provides first glimpses of the upcoming game.
- An exciting pre-order campaign will begin on July 12, 2021. Fans are encouraged to sign up for the newsletter on the Dune: House Secrets website and be first to hear all the latest updates this Summer.
Portal Games originally announced this title back during Portal Con in January of this year. At the time, they only released the name and that it would share the Detective system. This was alongside announcements for games about managing a football team and a Dreadful Circus card game, but this one by far was getting the biggest buzz. Months later, this is a big update and exciting to see.
About Dune House Secrets Board Game
In Dune: House Secrets, players take on the roles of rebels who must solve a series of challenging missions with a finite amount of time and resources. Players cooperatively make decisions on how to progress the story, as they explore different regions of the world, follow leads, leverage allies, and overcome opposition of all kinds. During gameplay, players utilize a variety of physical and digital game components to steer the narrative in fun and surprising directions – a deck of cards with essential clues and plot twists, a dozen physical handouts, and a dedicated website with assorted videos and additional resources – for a truly immersive game experience.
Beginning with a brief Prologue to ease players into the Dune universe, the game then continues with three big adventures, each taking 2-3 hours to play. During each episode, players can earn experience points to level up their characters in between missions and unlock new options in future episodes. Each adventure can be played separately as a stand-alone experience. Yet should players complete all three episodes, they will unravel a master game narrative with an epic climax and lasting impact on the two future games in Portal’s planned Dune trilogy.
An officially licensed board game produced in partnership with Legendary Entertainment, Herbert Properties LLC, Gale Force Nine (GF9), and Genuine Entertainment, Dune: House Secrets is designed by board game industry veteran Ignacy Trzewiczek and written by Przemysław Rymer – both well-known for their cooperation on Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game, which has sold over 100,000 copies worldwide in over a dozen languages.
