October 18, 2021 – On the heels of completing this year’s event, via a tweet this morning, the Essen Spiel 2022 Convention Dates have been announced. The event that is held in Germany every year and is considered one of the biggest gaming conventions of the year, and certainly a top one in Europe, will take place October 6th – 9th, 2022.
The announcement was made by the organization itself via Twitter (see below). The world was upended in 2021 due to the pandemic and different operations have handled getting back to business differently. The UK Game Expo, was one of the first major events out of the gate (July 30th) and reports were good from that but with everything happening they did work with a lower attendance number. Gen Con (September 16) kept it at half capacity and even though a few viral videos made it seem like it was out of control, reports from the ground were generally positive. PAX Unplugged (December 10th) is coming up in Philidelphia and they are causing waves for requiring attendees to be vaccinated. This has been met with both praise and skepticism.

Spiel Essen has not announced any other details for the 2022 convention yet like heath standards or anything because being a year away, the world is bound to be a completely different place by then. As we have seen, so much can happen in a year. That being said, given the major status of this event and how many different businesses and consumers depend on it, these dates being the final dates that do not change is a safe bet.
