The Goonies, released by Warner Brothers on June 7, 1985, would go on to launch the careers of Josh Brolin and Sean Astin, among others, as well as a cultural movement. This was the peak of Steven Spielberg goodness and being paired with other writer Chris Columbus (Gremlins) and the direction of master epic adventure director of the 80s Richard Donnar (Lethal Weapon, Superman), was a masterful concoction.
The synopsis is simply – a group of young misfits called The Goonies discover an ancient map and set out on an adventure to find a legendary pirate’s long-lost treasure. The film has certainly delivered and has stood up to the test of time.
