It is kind of cheating because Caverna is the follow-up but it has to get the top spot on the list of games like Agricola because it is a unique stand-alone game that is fantastic and exactly what you need if you love Agricola but want something new. It is a worker-placement game at heart, with a focus on farming you just happen to be in a cave in the mountains.

You begin the game with a farmer and his spouse, and each member of the farming family represents an action that the player can take each turn. Together, you cultivate the forest in front of your cave and dig deeper into the mountain. You furnish the caves as dwellings for your offspring as well as working spaces for small enterprises. For 1 – 7 players, games last about 30 – 210 minutes.
