The top spot on the list of games like Gaia Project is kind of cheating because it is the original predecessor of the game. Terra Mystica is a stand-alone title that is basically the same except for the fact that it doesn’t take place in space. They are both top-notch engine and world builders.

Each player governs one of 14 different peoples in seven landscapes groups. With subtlety and craft, the player must attempt to rule as great an area as possible and to develop that group’s skills. There are also four religious cults in which you can progress. To do all that, each group has special skills and abilities. Taking turns, the players execute their actions on the resources they have at their disposal. For 2 – 5 players, games run 60 – 150 minutes.
