#05 | Monopoly

Monopoly makes the list of games like Lords of Vegas because it is basically what Lords of Vegas would be if it was confined to a square. The game is driven by controlled luck, collecting strategic sets leads to bonuses and growth opportunities, and there is trading. Also, if what you like about Lords of Vegas is the play money, Monopoly definitely has you there.

You are a landowner attempting to buy and then develop your land. Being represented by one of the iconic tokens, you roll two dice and move that many spaces forward around the board. Along the way you spend money to pick up property. If you are able to get a set of properties, either by landing on them or trading with a player, you have a monopoly and can build up structures that earn you big bucks and hopefully bankrupt all other players that land there. For 2 – 8 players, games last 1 – 3 hours.

Grog Island Board Game

#04 | Grog Island

Grog Island makes the list of games like Lords of Vegas because it is also an economic city building game that is driven by luck but in a strategically controllable way. You need to claim areas and depending on where they are in the grid you are going to collect cash and have opportunities.

The core of Grog Island is its unique auction mechanism, which uses five colored dice. The players use these dice and the pips on them to create and raise bids. While the winner of an auction can claim buildings on certain peninsulas, the players who have passed are also rewarded: Not only do they receive goods like grog bottles or treasure maps but they also visit merchant ships where they can trade these goods for money, parrots or treasure chests. For 2 – 4 players, games run about 40 – 75 minutes.

#03 | Steam Park

Steam Park makes the list of games like Lords of Vegas because you are in an entertainment mecca and you need to make it work. The more you have in your park, the more liability that exists but also the profits. This is driven by luck but also a dexterity component. Everyone rerolls six dice until they have the symbols they like (actions) but how fast you get this done during the roll phase determines player order.

As owners of a fantastic steam park, you’re to build gigantic, coal-powered rides to attract as many visitors as you can – but building attractions won’t be enough. You’ll also need to manage your employees, invest in advertising in order to attract and please the different kinds of guests visiting your park, and, above all, keep the dirt that your park produces under strict control. For 2 – 4 players, games last about 60 minutes.

Acquire Board Game

#02 | Acquire

Aquire makes the list of games of Lords of Vegas because the putting a piece next to someone in order to take them over aspect is also very key. Luck is a component but it is a controlled one, you are driven by what you can draw, but within that, you have a lot of freedom. Money acts very similar as well, when you are in you are making money, but go too big and you can get knocked out of everything.

You are going to get six letter and number tiles that correspond to a center grid board that you know but keep secret. Each turn you play one to try and launch and grow hotel chains. The connecting tiles make the chains bigger and they take over smaller chains they come into contact with. All while this is happening, people are buying and selling stock of those chains trying to make big strategic gains and avoid loss. For 2 – 6 players, games last about 90 minutes.

Vegas Showdown Board Game

#01 | Vegas Showdown

Vegas Showdown makes the list of games like Lords of Vegas because simply it is another great economic Las Vegas themed board game. If you are looking for that excitement, there is no better destination and midset than Las Vegas. This game brings down the luck, with an auction system instead of a draw and roll at random, but still in the same growth zone.

You compete to build the most famous hotel/casino. Room tiles representing slot machines, lounges, restaurants, and other casino-related places appear on a central board and auctions are held to win the rights to have those rooms in your building, garnering income, population, or fame. Bidding wars escalate, values fluctuate, and designers renovate until finally the hotel/casinos are put to the test to determine whose garners the most fame. For 3 – 5 players, games run about 75 minutes.
