Continue if you are looking for games like Pictionary and are curious about what similar games to play next. Teams are given clues and givers have to draw them at the same time as players strive to be the first to guess the correct answer. You are on a clock and you must convey these clues by creating a picture or series of pictures to get your lively associates to guess what you are trying to say.

To determine this list we broke down Pictionary to what it is. Pictionary is a classic party game about communicating in a way other than speaking. An individual needs to break down a subject and convey it to their team while on a clock. If you are looking for something similar, you have come to the right place. We took all this into consideration and came up with this list of the 5 board games like Pictionary.

Scrawl Board Game Drawing

#05 | Scrawl

Scrawl makes the list of games like Pictionary because it is a doodling party where you need to convey a story with some quick scribbling. You have different goals and motivations but at its core, it is still a game about hindered communication. It is important to note that this is an adult party game and not the best choice for young families.

Revealing the terrible artist in all of us, players in Scrawl start off with a loaded phrase, doodle it, then pass it on. By the time your masterpiece of an “OAP Conga Line” passes through your friends’ weird minds and wonky pens — and makes it back to you — things will have gone horribly wrong. Points are awarded for the most disastrous doodles and godawful guesses. Most grins wins. For 4 – 8 players, games run roughly 30 minutes.

Duplik Board Game

#04 | Duplik

Duplik makes the list of games like Pictionary because it is a funny, fast-paced, family and party game that tests each player’s ability to describe, draw, and evaluate wacky images. The timer makes things hectic and all over the place, while communicating via drawing leads to some fun hits and misses.

In each round, one player (the Art Director) describes a unique and utterly bizarre image while the other players (the Artists) attempt to draw the image based solely on the Art Director’s description. Once time is up, Artists trade drawings and the ten hidden criteria for the image are uncovered. It’s up to each Artist to decide whether the drawing he or she is judging meets the criteria and receives points. For 3 – 10 players, games run about 45 minutes.

Pictomania Board Game

#03 | Pictomania

Pictomania makes the list of games like Pictionary because like its title being a pretty close copy, so is everything else about it. Instead of a team game though, everyone is drawing at the same time. The game gives a chance to those who excel only at one or the other skill to crush the dreams of other players.

A game lasts five rounds, and at the start of each round, you set up six randomly drawn cards on card racks visible to all players. Cards are double-sided, come in four levels of difficulty, and include seven related words on a single side. In addition to a set of guessing cards, scoring tokens, marker and drawing board, each player receives one symbol card and one number card, which together indicate which word or phrase on the revealed cards that player must draw. Bonus tokens equal to one less than the number of players are placed in the center of the table.

A Fake Artist In New York Board Game

#02 | A Fake Artist Goes to New York

A Fake Artist Goes to New York makes the list of games like Pictionary because it is another great game about conveying information to everyone else via drawing. This has deeper levels however because it is not just about conveying clues, but also deception. There is a fake in your midst and you need to sniff them out in addition to everything else.

Players take turns being the Question Master, whose role is to set a category, write a word within that category on dry erase cards, and hand those out to other players as artists. At the same time, one player will have only an “X” written on his card: they are the fake artist. Players will then go around the table twice, drawing one contiguous stroke each on a paper to draw the word established by the Question Master, then guess who the fake artist is. For 5 – 10 players, games last about 20 minutes.

Telestrations Board Game Overview

#01 | Telestrations

Telestrations takes the top spot on the list of board games like Pictionary because this is basically the same game except there is simultaneous drawing by everyone and then lots of guessing to get something correct instead of racing toward the end. It very much has the same vibe and intensity level of Pictionary.

Each player begins by sketching a word dictated by the roll of a die. Time is limited by the old fashioned sand timer. When time is up all players, all at the same time, pass their sketch to the next player, who must guess what’s been drawn. Players then simultaneously pass their guess — which hopefully matches the original word — to the next player who must try to draw the word they see — and so on. For 4 – 8 players, games last about 30 minutes.
