Kingdomino is like Rummikub because it is also a hybrid of dominoes. While Rummikub is a combination of the card game rummy and dominoes, Kingdomino is a hybrid of dominoes and a set collection civ building game. That is the only reason this is on the list of games like Rummikub. The turn by turn drafting of Kingdomino is quite different then the get rid of em all Rummikub.

In Kingdomino, you are a Lord seeking new lands in which to expand your kingdom. You must explore all the lands, including wheat fields, lakes, and mountains, in order to spot the best plots, while competing with other lords to acquire them first. This is done by competing over two-panel tiles matching 1 or 2 of the six lands to strategically add to your empire. For 2 – 4 players, games last about 15 – 20 minutes.

Archaeology: The New Expedition makes the list of games like Rummikub specifically because of the Rummy aspect. You are an archaeologist working the dig sites of the Egyptian desert. Search for the right pieces to complete torn parchments, broken pots, and other priceless artifacts. Explore an ancient pyramid in the hope of uncovering a huge stash of treasure! Trade shrewdly at the local marketplace to increase the value of your collection. This is a drafting and push your luck game. Sell your treasures to the museum at just the right time for maximum profit. For 2 – 5 players, games last about 20 minutes.

Red 7 Board Game

Another title on the list of games like Rummikub is another one that is the same but also very different. Red 7 makes the list because it is all about a communal number puzzle to be solved. It has that hand management, emphasis on set collection and hint of pending elimination. Outside of that, the way the central puzzle actually works is very fundamentally different.

The rules of “Red” are simple: the highest card wins! But “Red” is just one of seven games you’ll be playing in Red7, and if you’re not winning the current game at the end of your turn, you’re out! The last person standing wins the round. The deck in Red7 is 49 cards: each of the colors of the rainbow numbered 1 to 7.

While Rummy is the conduit, Dominoes is the overall game. Dominoes makes the list of games like Rummikub because you are playing the exact same game, just with a different means to an end. Instead of making Rummy runs, you are getting rid of your tiles by connecting numbers on the board.

Dominoes is a classic that most people around the world have experienced in some way. The game came out around 1500 and is still beloved today. Players each draw a hand of random tiles with two panels that each have a number. You need to connect like tiles on the board so you can empty your hand as soon as possible. It may be a little vanilla, but it is a classic. For 2 – 10 players, games run about 30 minutes.

Lanterns Harvest Festival Board Game

Lanterns is a pretty dead-on ringer for Rummikub except instead of doing things to empty your hand, you are doing the same types of things to score points. This has the turn-based tile placement and it has modular set collection all with the right amount of player interaction. This was an easy choice for the top spot on the list of games like Rummikub.

In Lanterns: The Harvest Festival, you get a hand of tiles depicting various color arrangements of floating lanterns, as well as an inventory of colored lantern cards of specific colors. When you place a tile, all players receive a lantern card corresponding to the color on the side of the tile facing them. Place carefully to earn cards and other bonuses for yourself, while also looking to deny your opponents. Players gain honor by dedicating sets of lantern cards — three pairs, for example, or all seven colors. For 2 – 4 players, games last about 30 minutes.
