Continue if you are looking for games like Spyfall and are curious about what similar games to play next. Spyfall is played over several rounds, and at the start of each round all players receive cards showing the same location — a casino, a traveling circus, etc — except that one player receives a card that says “Spy” instead. Players then start asking each other questions — “Why are you dressed so strangely?” or “When was the last time we got a payday?” — trying to guess who among them is the spy.

To determine this list we broke down Spyfall to what it is. This is an imperfect information and communication deduction game using a cool theme. This is a party game that gets the communication flowing. You know a little about going on and as you gather more information, you can widdle down the choices and figure out who the hidden person is. If you are looking for something similar, you have come to the right place. We took all this into consideration and came up with this list of the 5 board games like Spyfall.

#05 | Clue

Clue makes the list of games like Spyfall because it is a simple imperfect information deduction game that will get the party started. It is very simple but effective. Instead of asking questions to figure out who the spy is, you are asking less creative questions to figure out who did what where. This is less about your fancy ability to stretch and take in more creative information and more about just the facts.

Shuffle up the player, weapon and room cards. While they are face down, take one of each and seal them into the culprit envelope. These are the details of the crime. Players take turns roll one 6-sided die to move around a board filled with 9 rooms. When you enter a room, you can ask a question. Players are dealt cards after the murder is set and these questions help you find out what they are. If someone has it in their hand, you know it is not in the envelope and thus part of the crime. Eliminate until you figure it out. For 2 – 6 players, games go 45 minutes.

You must unmask them. In five nights you will reshape destiny or die trying. For 5 – 10 players, games run about 30 minutes.

A Fake Artist In New York Board Game

#02 | A Fake Artist Goes To New York

A Fake Artist Goes To New York makes the list of board games like Spyfall because it is a very similar premise but different enough to be its own thing. Here everyone draws, but one of you doesn’t know what they’re drawing. The communication here turns into how well you can draw, which becomes interesting when you are trying to lie or stretch.

Players take turns being the Question Master, whose role is to set a category, write a word within that category on dry erase cards, and hand those out to other players as artists. At the same time, one player will have only an “X” written on his card: they are the fake artist. Players will then go around the table twice, drawing one contiguous stroke each on a paper to draw the word established by the Question Master, then guess who the fake artist is. For 5 – 10 players, games last about 20 minutes.

Detective Club Board Game Gameplay Overview
Copyright © 2020 Matt Halvorson. All Rights Reserved.

#01 | Detective Club

Detective Club takes the top spot on the list of board games like Spyfall because it is the exact same idea but instead of busting people out based on how they answer questions about locations, you bust them out based on how they play art cards in relation to a clue that was given. This little difference makes for two completely different games, but it is that same deduction mixed with communication type of game.

Players take turns giving a clue that matches two artwork cards in their hand. The hook is that everyone except one person knows the clue and the goal is the figure out who that person is. Everyone puts down two art cards and at the end has to describe why they knew the clue and are not the mystery liar. The person who doesn’t know has to lie and stretch their way through so as not to be detected. For 4 – 8 players, game go for 45 minutes.
