Each player is given a pile of letters. Rearrange your letters until you come up with a word. Be sneaky and choose a word that your opponent won’t easily guess.

Write it down, keep it a secret. Rescramble your tiles, pass them to your opponent. The goal is to examine your opponent’s tiles and try to figure out their word. You do this with Clue Cards. These tell you things such as: what’s the first letter, how long’s the word, or what does it rhyme with? You win by using as FEW of these clue cards as possible to figure out what word your opponent wrote down.

3. SETUP | Put Out Berry Tokens
Put out a pile of the berry tokens in an accessible area to act as the shared bank.

4. SETUP | Setup Player Shields
Each player gets a three panel shield to put up and hide their play area. Take one and prop it up.

5. SETUP | Prepare Vowels & Consonants Tiles
There are two bags, one for vowel tiles and one for consonant tiles. Make sure tiles are in the appropriate bag and these are properly shuffled.

6. SETUP | Players Pick Starting Tiles
Each player takes 4 vowel tiles and 7 consonant tiles. Each player puts these behind their player shield so they can see them but their opponent cannot.

7. SETUP | Players Pick Starting Tiles
The final step of how to play A Little Wordy setup before getting into gameplay is to dole out the tiles. Each player takes 4 vowel tiles and 7 consonant tiles. Each player puts these behind their player shield so they can see them but their opponent cannot.

8. GAMEPLAY | Form A Secret Word
Using your 11 tiles form one secret word. It can be any length using your available tiles and it must be a valid word. Write this word on the “secret word” area of your player shield. Shuffle your tiles so they don’t form the word anymore. Fold up your player shield and set them aside.

9. GAMEPLAY | Swap Tiles
After forming a secret word, both players swap their eleven tiles.

10. GAMEPLAY | Chose A Starting Player
Through your randomizer of choice, decide on a starting player. Turns will start with them and alternate between the two until the game is over.

11. GAMEPLAY | Turn Option 1 | Activate One Clue
Announce the clue you want to activate and read the instructions on the card. Do whatever its says to do and hopefully get a good piece of information. There is a number on top of the clue, the opposing player takes berries from the bank equal to that number. Blues are easier and while reds are more challenging, they could give you bigger information. Clues used remain and can be used again.

12. GAMEPLAY | Turn Option 2 | Guess Your Opponent’s Word
Form what you think is your opponent’s word out of their letter tiles. Announce your guess and see if you are right. If you are, your opponent can no longer collect berry tokens. They have to keep going so you can continue to earn berries. If you are incorrect, your opponent gets two berry tokens from the bank and you continue as normal.

13. GAME END | Words Are Guessed
The back and forth continues until a win is triggered. If you guess your opponents word, and you have the most tokens, the game is over and you win. If you guess the word and they have equal or more tokens, they get to keep going and see if they can steal the win. You need to end with the most, so if they have to keep going, your hope is that they use clues that score you berries.

14. WINNING | High Berry Total Wins
After all is said and done, whoever has the most berry tokens wins.

If you think your opponent has created a word that is misspelled or does not exist in the dictionary, you can challenge the word by looking it up. If their secret word is invalid, they lose the game. If your opponent presents an invalid word for a clue such as “word builder,” you do not need to offer any information until they present you with a valid word.

Get a little more wordy! You can increase the length of the game by playing three times in a row. The player who wins two of the three rounds is the winner of the longer game.

Want to play with more than two players? Divide up into two teams and work with teammates to come up with your secret word, decide which clues to activate and guess the opposing team’s secret word. The rules are the same, but be careful about what you say out loud.
