SETTLERS OF CATAN REVIEW by BOARD GAME HALV
– CATEGORY BREAKDOWN –
Fun (9 out of 10)
Settlers of Catan has everything. An intense and layered strategy with just the right mix of interaction and gameplay. There is never a dull moment, even on other people’s turns you are engaged and having a good time. You have tons of options and need to think both short and long term. The game is just very fun, different things come together harmoniously to make for an amazing experience.
Replayability (10 out of 10)
Everything about the game changes every single time you play. What resources are where and what it takes to get them is different. This changes the needed strategy and approach every time. Not only are the resources all different but the civilization you build on top of them has to be different. You can play this over and over and never have the same game. As far as this Settlers of Catan review is concerned, they have achieved perfection in this category.
Player Interaction (7 out of 10)
Catan has that special kind of communication that is all about player manipulation and convincing your opponents that they should attack the other opponents and not you. On top of that, trading is the underlying core of the economy. Without it, building is nearly impossible. Being a shrewd negotiator and knowing how to approach who when is key.
Quality (9 out of 10)
It can not be undersold how amazing the flow and the mechanics of Settlers of Catan are. Everything about the game is world-class and that is what has allowed it to become such a staple. You can pick up the game in just a few turns but it could take a lifetime to master. There are so many options and strategies, there is no shortage of things to do. This Settlers of Catan review gives everything a big thumbs up.
Art & Style (6 out of 10)
Catan is very simple in nature and the art is no different. Besides a few knights and interesting development cards, there is no art too it. Though, the calm sheep meadows, majestic grain farms, hopeful clay queries, vibrant forests, progressive mines and bustling seaports are all nailed.

SETTLERS OF CATAN REVIEW by OTHER REVIEWERS
91 / 100 – Zatu Games Review
“Writing a review of Catan is sort of like writing a book review for George Orwell’s 1984. Love it or hate it, no one can deny the tremendous impact that it’s had on generations since.”
9 / 10 – iSlaytheDragon Review
“Settlers of Catan is not my favorite game of all time. It’s not even a game I commonly pull out at my table. but it is a game I can remember with fondness, for all the good times it created with family and friends.”
8.5 / 10 – Nonstop Tabletop Review
“I definitely am not the first to say it, but Catan is a great game. It is easy to learn, and keeps all players involved throughout the game making it one of the ideal Gateway Games.”
5 / 5 – Board Game Quest Review
“A game with great game play balance and changing board setup make this game a joy to play with both experienced and new players.”
6.5 / 10 – What’s Eric Playing? Review
“I want to like Catan a lot more than I do. It’s got fun sorta area-control mechanics, there’s some tension when you’re competing with another player to settle a good spot, and it’s got a nice thing where once you start rolling in resources you can rapidly accelerate to winning, but they’re a few issues.”
10 / 10 – Board Game Wizards Review
“This game provides young players with the chance to get to grips with a strategy based game that is not too time-consuming or intricate. It offers players the chance to play a quick strategy based game, especially families and that is certainly a positive aspect of the game.”
