We are happy to share with you this Sheriff of Nottingham review because this bluffing and bribing game is special. Do not be fooled by the name, this is not some kids game or Robin Hood adventure. Sheriff of Nottingham is about pulling a fast one and using mid games to pull one over on your neighbor. The game does a great job of mixing a more party communication style with a strategy game. This is our Sheriff of Nottingham review.

Fun (7 out of 10)

The game mixes many components together unlike any other that makes for a fun package. The game is mainly about when and how you are going to sneak in contraband and you are going to use every trick in your communication and body language repertoire to make that happen. That is on the surface but under it there is some strategic mathematical thinking and bonuses for set collection efforts. The game is very fun, but it is a little one-note.

Replayability (6 out of 10)

Communication games, like this one, are as fun as the conversation amongst the people playing makes it. You are going to find this, every group is different but you can always bond over themes of lies and truths. That said, you are only going to play this so many times before your tricks are no longer as new or exciting. Games will be different every time, which is something.

Player Interaction (9 out of 10)

The game is all player interaction and as far as this Sheriff of Nottingham review is concerned, they nailed it. As mentioned, it is all about your communication skills, but it is not just yours, your opponent as well. You have to know your audience and you have to know that they need to be as unpredictable as you. Under the base, there are these set collection bonuses that everyone is fighting for. Knowing when to take on your opponents and when requires a certain level of mastery. High marks from this Sheriff of Nottingham review.

Quality (7 out of 10)

There are not many games like this out there and especially ones that use such a well known IP (intellectual property) so well. Whoever came up with this one put together a great experience. The pieces are all fine, it could probably be better (especially the felt sacks) but who can complain, the pieces are solid and will hold up for many games.

Art & Style (6 out of 10)

No one has mined a property for an interesting theme like Sheriff of Nottingham. Whoever decided to isolate the Sheriff from the Robin Hood universe and build this game around him was a genius. That is the type of idea you bring up in a meeting and it sticks with people. The art itself is pretty cookie-cutter, but there is not much too it so it is not like they had all these boxes they didn’t tick. Overall, solid.

Sheriff of Nottingham Review | Board Game Halv

Sheriff is a great party game for those who want a little more classic strategy in their party games but still want that rousing conversation. Sure it may get a little old after many many games, but those first few are gold. With so many board games out there, it is hard to find something that has not already been done to death, but Sheriff does a great job of bringing something unique to the world.
