January 12, 2021 – The classic card game has been around and after 50 years Uno Says Happy Birthday With $50,000 via an Uno World Championship. To make a big splash for its birthday, Uno has created a very sleek anniversary edition and dropped word of the big championship celebration. Here is the official text from the Uno page on the Mattel website:

“To celebrate our 50th year, the world’s #1 card game will be introducing new decks, like the premium 50th Anniversary edition and the Iconic Series, which honors every decade of UNO with unique, throwback designs. We’ll also have a diverse slate of collaborations and a first-of-its-kind, global UNO Tournament that you won’t want to skip! Shuffle up and get ready for a wild 50th year!”

Industry trade site Toy News had more developments on the matter stating, “UNO is launching the first official UNO Championship Series, giving fans the chance to prove they are the best UNO player out there. The UNO Championship Series will welcome fans from all over to compete to become the first official UNO World Champion, with the finale taking place in November 2021 featuring a grand prize of $50,000 for the winner.”

This is all a pretty great marketing stunt and promotion as far as we are concerned. Good for them for putting out an opportunity to the community like this. Uno World Champion would be a pretty great title to hold.

ABOUT UNO

Players race to empty their hands and catch opposing players with cards left in theirs, which score points. In turns, players attempt to play a card by matching its color, number, or word to the topmost card on the discard pile. If unable to play, players draw a card from the draw pile, and if still unable to play, they pass their turn. Wild and special cards spice things up a bit. For 2 – 10 players, games run about 30 minutes
