Sept 30, 2020 – The company behind Hero Clicks, Wizkids Releases New Pinball Board Game and it is smartly a roll and write. For being such a fascinating gaming device it is a surprise that there has been no high-end pinball board game to come out and captivate audiences worldwide. This could be that game. It was announced this morning via Wizkids site that they will “bring the Arcade Classic to the Tabletop in Super-Skill Pinball: 4-Cade” and you can buy it right now!
The game is a roll and write game which is where you have your own score sheet and each turn you need to make a choice from a small group of options. As time progresses, your sheet fills up and tighter spaces mean higher difficulty. Yahtzee is the originator of this but it has blown up into so much more. I am wary of anyone claiming to have a pinball board game, because of how much live movement there is, but this seems like a fitting genre.
The game looks promising. Learning how to play to play Pinball: 4-Cade the pinball board game seems very easy, but with lots to deal with along the road:
(1) A pinball starts at the top of one of many different tracts.
(2) Roll two 6D (6 Sided Dice) and choose one.
(3) Move pinball to a bumper, spinner, or target with same number.
(4) Anything that was “hit” along the path of pinball gets marked off.
(5) Marked off things have rules like bonus shots, or give you points.
(6) Try to not drop down and bounce around for as many points as possible.
(7) Flippers give you redemption chances to bounce upward.
(8) “Skill Shots” you earn let you do cool things.
(9) Once you fall out completely, add up all your points.
(10) There are different boards with different rules (and game mechanics).
In the mix of luck to strategy ratio, this game goes higher on the strategy than traditional pinball and it still brings that same level of excitement. So it is a win-win all around. For a pinball board game design, the creator Geoff Engelstein (Space Cadets, The Expanse Board Game) deserves a ton of credit, because this is such a creative solution to this problem.

Here is the full release from the Wizkids site:
WizKids is thrilled to announce that our hotly-anticipated Super-Skill Pinball: 4-Cade, a new pinball themed roll-and-write game from designer Geoff Engelstein, is now available in North American Game Stores!
This spectacular new title features four unique tables and matching backglass for players to choose from: Carniball, Cyberhack, Dance Fever!, and Dragon Slayer. Each turn, a pair of dice is rolled. Each player will select one of the two results and move their pinball to a bumper, spinner, or target with a matching number. As the game progresses, players will make their way down each level of the table, eventually selecting which flipper’s roll to use to send the ball back to the top.
But don’t just take our word for it! The critical response to the game has been overwhelmingly positive, with Tom Vasel from The Dice Tower calling it “my favorite roll-and-write game, period,” and Man vs Meeple’s Jeremy lauding it as “the most creative game of 2020!”
